Our Vision

A Society where people work for their sustained development in dignity witnessing God’s Love.

Our Mission

We are the social development arm of the Catholic Church that exists to witness the Gospel of Christ through integral development for the common good of all the people.

CORE VALUES

1. Gospel Values and the Social Teaching of the Church
Caritas Kenya is inspired and motivated by the Gospel of Christ and the Social Teachings of the Church while serving the people of God.

2. Dignity of the Human Person
Respect for our progressive socio-cultural practices. Caritas Kenya will create a friendly affirming climate that makes the poor to be subjects of their own development and agents of change and not objects of our pity.

3. Options for the Poor
Caritas Kenya strives to combat dehumanizing poverty, which robs people of their dignity and humanity. The rights of the poor, the marginalized, and the disabled must be promoted with a renewed commitment to the restoration of their sense of responsibility in building a better society. We shall not forget the very important position of women in society and shall promote their rights and duties in Caritas Kenya structures. The issue of gender balances shall also be considered in Caritas Kenya structures.

4.Equitable Distribution of Resources
Caritas Kenya seek to ensure equitable distribution of resources to enhance the economic, social, political and cultural advancement towards the achievement of justice for all.

5. Solidarity
Caritas Kenya strives to instill a genuine sense of solidarity in dealing with the members, other ecumenical bodies and global institutions.

6. Guiding Stewardship and Resources
Caritas Kenya will steward the resources entrusted to it in an efficient and effective manner, being aware of its obligation to act at all times in a transparent and accountable manner to all the stakeholders.

7. The Mission of the Church
Caritas Kenya as a socio-pastoral expression of the ecclesial community will continue to make efforts to promote the social-pastoral mission of the church in the promotion of sustainable integral development.

8. Participation and Empowerment
Caritas Keya has to continuously re-assess its ability to Identify issues at the grassroots level in order to organize reflection and analysis at the diocesan, national and global levels. It will then stimulate and encourage the people concerned to initiate appropriate action at local level.

9. Subsidiarity
Caritas Kenya will respect the principle of Diocesan autonomy, while at the same time, helping them to work together effectively and harmoniously in pursuit of our common mission.

10. Integral Human Development
Caritas Kenya sees relief and emergency work in the context of integral human development interventions. Relief and Emergency work shall be coordinated to integrate rehabilitation, development, peace and reconciliation.

11. Co-operation
Caritas Kenya will continue to develop close working relations and co-operation with the Dioceses and other Christian, ecumenical and secular organizations, which share our Vision.

12. Capacity and Institutional Strengthening
Caritas Kenya will encourage learning in terms of sharing experiences and ideas and also transform this capacity into a more effective tool to strengthen the capacity of the dioceses to deliver sustainable programmes and services to, or on behalf of the poor.
Management and leadership skills must be improved at all levels to ensure that new development technologies and techniques are acquired in order to render effective service to the people.

13. Witness
Caritas Kenya will fulfill the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops’s Motto, “You shall be my Witness” while carrying out her Mandate.

14. Professionalism and dialogue.
Whatever we do shall be guided by a high level of professionalism and continuous dialogue between the staff and our esteemed partners.

“Love is not patronizing and charity isn’t about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same — with charity you give love, so don’t just give money but reach out your hand instead.”
